This work was created at 2017, when I went to Japan for graduate studying from Taiwan.
I was forced to explore the issue of boundary, nationality, and identity of Taiwanese, because I felt unconformable as being a foreigner in Japanese society. When my university held an exhibition with the theme of “International Student,” I began to reflect on many kinds of political issues in daily life and to face the finally unavoidable issue, i.e., “what is Taiwan?” At that year, the “Venice Biennale” also adopted “country” as the unit for exhibition.
Under that context, my work was not as political as it was part of daily life of a foreign student. In its essence, I was trying to create a tender work.
